Special Issue Introduction

Bariatric surgery has developed significantly over the years, providing some effective solutions for obesity and its associated comorbidities. However, the complexity of these procedures demands precision, personalized approaches, and continuous refinement. In light of this, artificial intelligence (AI) emerges as a transformative tool, offering advanced capabilities in data analysis, predictive modeling, and decision support, thus enhancing surgical outcomes and patient care.

The future of AI in bariatric surgery appears promising. Continued research endeavors and technological innovations are poised to refine AI algorithms, enhance surgical automation, and enable real-time decision-making. Furthermore, the integration of AI with other emerging technologies such as robotics and telemedicine offer new ways for remote patient care and surgical collaboration. As AI continues to evolve, it holds the potential to revolutionize the landscape of bariatric surgery, making treatments more accessible, efficient, and tailored to individual patient needs.

The Special Issue aims to explore the latest advancements and potential applications of AI technology in the field of bariatric surgery. Through this Special Issue, we seek to comprehensively review the current status of AI in bariatric surgery and discuss its potential roles in preoperative assessment, surgical planning, intraoperative execution, and postoperative management. Additionally, we aim to forecast the future of AI technology in bariatric surgery, discussing both the opportunities it presents and the challenges it may face, as well as future directions for development.
