Prof. Aijun Sun Serves as the New Editor-in-Chief of Vessel Plus

We are delighted to announce that Prof. Aijun Sun from Fudan University in China has joined Vessel Plus as the new Editor-in-Chief, bringing her extensive expertise in cardiovascular research to lead the journal into its next developmental phase, where we anticipate exciting advancements in the field and enhanced contributions to the scientific community.

Biography of Aijun Sun

Prof. Aijun Sun, MD, FAHA, FESC, is a prominent figure in cardiovascular research and currently serves as a professor at the Shanghai Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases at Zhongshan Hospital, Fudan University, China. She is also the Vice Director of the Shanghai Clinical Center for Cardiovascular Diseases and works at the Key Laboratory of Ischemic Heart Diseases under China's National Health Commission.

Dr. Sun earned her Doctorate in Medicine from Shanghai Second Medical University in 2002, followed by postdoctoral experiences as a visiting scholar at Essen University in Germany (2003) and the University of Texas, Houston, USA (2014). Over the past two decades, she has made significant contributions to the fields of heart failure (HF) and energy metabolism.

Her research focuses on unraveling the molecular mechanisms underlying heart failure, with a particular emphasis on how hereditary factors contribute to the condition. She has identified several new genes linked to hereditary HF, challenging traditional understandings and broadening perspectives in the field. Moreover, her work has illuminated the roles of mitochondrial metabolism and immune inflammation in cardioprotection and the slowing of heart failure progression, leading to innovative clinical applications.

Dr. Sun's scientific contributions are widely recognized, having been incorporated into authoritative sources such as cardiology textbooks, as well as the Chinese and European heart failure guidelines and expert consensus documents. She leads 12 national research grants and has authored over 120 scientific articles in leading journals, including Circulation, Eur Heart J, and PNAS. Furthermore, her innovative work has resulted in 27 invention patents across China, the US, and Japan.
