Special Interview with Prof. Willy Susilo - Journal of Surveillance, Security and Safety

On November 30, 2022, the Editorial Office of Journal of Surveillance, Security and Safety (JSSS) had the great honor to conduct a special interview with Prof. Willy Susilo (School of Computing and Information Technology, University of Wollongong, Wollongong, NSW, Australia). Guest Moderator Dr. Weizheng Wang (Department of Computer Science, City University of Hong Kong, Hong Kong, China) and Prof. Susilo had a wonderful academic discussion.

Prof. Susilo just was recognized as the top leader Australian Researcher in computer security and cryptography in The Australian newspaper’s annual list based on his many outstanding achievements in computer security and cryptography. During this interview, he shared his deep insights into the field of computer security and cryptography, and discussed recent research with Dr. Wang, an outstanding young scholar with a passion for this field.

Interviewee introduction:

Prof. Willy Susilo is a Distinguished Professor, an IEEE Fellow, an IET (Institution of Engineering and Technology) Fellow, and an ACS (Australian Computer Society) Fellow at the School of Computing and Information Technology, Faculty of Engineering and Information Sciences at University of Wollongong, Australia. Also, he is the Head of the School of Computing and Information Technology and the Director of the Institute of Cybersecurity and Cryptology, University of Wollongong, Australia. Prof. Susilo received his Ph.D. degree in computer science from the University of Wollongong, Australia. He has authored or co-authored over 300 research papers in the area of cybersecurity and cryptology. His main research interests include cybersecurity, cryptography, and information security. His work has been cited over 13,000 times in Google Scholar. He has served as a program committee member at dozens of international conferences. He was previously awarded the prestigious ARC Future Fellow by the Australian Research Council and the Researcher of the Year Award in 2016 by the University of Wollongong. Furthermore, he was named as top Australian Researcher in computer security and cryptography in 2022.
