What is EVCNA?

The Journal of Extracellular Vesicles and Circulating Nucleic Acids is an international, peer-reviewed, open access journal which provides a forum for the sharing of research data, new methodology, reviews and commentaries in the areas of extracellular vesicles and circulating nucleic acids including DNA, RNA, and miRNA and their therapeutic use.

EVCNA will publish articles that are of high interest to readers, original, technically correct, and clearly presented. Supported by author publication fees (APC), its hallmarks are a rapid peer review and publication process with open access to all readers.

EVCNA's founding Editor-in-Chief is Prof. Yoke Peng Loh.

What is the scope of EVCNA?

The journal encourages articles in the following areas:
Original research, new methodology, reviews and commentaries in the areas of extracellular vesicles and circulating nucleic acids including DNA, RNA, and miRNA and their therapeutic use, including serving as biomarkers for the diagnosis, prognostication and surveillance of disease states.

What is the criterion for an article to be accepted for publication in EVCNA?

The criteria for acceptance will be scientific excellence and originality. Original articles and reviews are acceptable. Results reported have not been submitted or published elsewhere (although expanded versions of conference publications are eligible for submission). Experiments, statistics, and other analyses are performed to a high technical standard and are described in sufficient detail. Conclusions are presented in an appropriate fashion and are supported by the data. The article is presented in an intelligible fashion and is written in English. Appropriate references to related prior published works must be included.

Peer Review

How long does the peer review process take for EVCNA?

On average, the EVCNA peer review process takes 4-6 weeks from submission to first decision notification. Submission to publication time takes typically 6 to 9 weeks, depending on how long it takes the authors to submit final files after they receive the accept/reject notification.

Bibliometrics

Does EVCNA have an impact factor? Is it indexed?

EVCNA is a newly released journal and has not been indexed by any database.

Article Processing Charges (APC)

The journal follows an OA publication fee model. What will the OA article processing charge be?

In order to provide free access to readers, and to cover the costs of peer review, copyediting, typesetting, long-term archiving, and journal management, OAE uses article processing charges (APCs). At present, the APC for EVCNA is fully subsidized by OAE in the first three years, meaning there is no charge to authors or their institutions.
Membership: OAE members receive a 20% discount if EVCNA starts charge APC.

Is there a page limit or over-length article charge for EVCNA articles?

No. There is no page limit for articles and therefore no over-length article charge.

How will the APC be used?

The APC will be used to cover the costs of English editing, copyediting, typesetting, long-term archiving, and journal management.

Why would an author pay to publish?

An author would pay to publish if they are in search of a reputable global outlet for innovative, practical, and applied research with a rapid peer review and publication process that is free to all readers. Also, authors may be required by funding agencies to publish in an OA journal.

Special Sections

What is a Special Section in EVCNA?

We are developing Special Sections for EVCNA that focus on unique topics. Special Sections are created by Associate Editors and Guest Editors once their proposal is accepted by an EVCNA Editorial Committee. Each Special Section will include an Editorial that introduces the collection of (4 or more) articles on the topic.

Who can submit to a Special Section in EVCNA?

Any researcher who is specialized in the Special Section field can submit an article to EVCNA. All Special Sections will be listed on the EVCNA main page with a Call for Papers. New Special Sections will be highlighted on the EVCNA social media sites (LinkedIn, Facebook, Twitter, G+).

If an article is submitted to a Special Section, how long does it take for it to complete peer review?

The review time for an article submitted to a Special Section is the same as for any regular submission. On average, the EVCNA peer review process takes 4-6 weeks from submission to first decision notification. Authors may submit their article to an "open" Special Section any time before the submission deadline.

Additional Supplemental Material

What kind of supplemental material can I publish with my article?

You may submit supplemental material (code, data, video, etc.) with your article submission, which will be posted on OAE under the tab "media" with your published article.

Multimedia Videos

Why should I submit multimedia with an article? What can I include with it?

EVCNA encourages submission of video as it can be a great tool to enhance and promote your article. We highlight a video/article every two weeks on the EVCNA main page based on the quality of the content. Typically, the most downloaded articles in EVCNA have multimedia.

Video may be simulations, experimental demonstrations, or interviews with the authors or other experts, for example. We also request authors to submit a graphical abstract to overlay the video on the abstract page.

What file size can my multimedia video be?

The file size should not exceed 100 MB, however for optimal viewing on OAE, we recommend smaller file sizes using lower resolution formats.

What kind of video formats do you accept?

Videos may be .mp4 (MPEG-4), .flv (Flash Video), or .avi (Microsoft audio-video interleaved) formats. Please note that Power Point presentations must be converted into a video file before submission.

What type of content may be included in a video?

Videos may be simulations, demonstrations, interviews with experts, or a presentation of the technology. Multimedia videos should provide a brief synopsis of the article's content. Videos should be in English and appropriate for journal publication.

How can I submit a multimedia video?

During the article submission process, you can upload your video as "Multimedia" in MESAs submission system during the file upload step.

If you have already submitted your article, please contact your article's administrator within 7 days of submitting your article.

Copyright

Are EVCNA authors expected to transfer copyright to the publisher?

OAE offers ONE option for authors submitting OA articles: the Creative Commons Attribution License (CC BY).

The CC BY is an OA publishing license that allows authors to retain ownership of the copyright for their work while granting all users permission to publish and distribute the work. Authors should visit the Creative Commons web page to understand the terms of the CC BY, which is nonexclusive, applies to all potential users, and grants users rights to distribute and adapt the work without obtaining explicit permission from the author.
